<description>The UK Ministry of Defence and the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA), comprising BVT Surface Fleet, Babcock International, KBR and Thales UK, signed a manufacturing contract on 3 July for the two new Carrier Vessel Future (CVF) for the Royal Navy.The two 65,000-tonne CVFs, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, are due to enter service in 2014 and 2016. </description>

<title>Saab officially proposes Gripen for Swiss fighter requirement</title>
<description>Saab has officially submitted the JAS-39 Gripen for Switzerland's requirement for a replacement for the F-5E Tiger. The Gripen will be pitted against the Eurofighter Typhoon and the Dassault Aviation in demonstrations due to take place this month and in August. Saab also revealed that the Gripen will be evaluated by the Netherlands as an alternative to the F-35 Lightning II. The Gripen has also been offered to Brazil and India.</description>

<title>BVT Surface Fleet is officially launched</title>
<description>The UK's new surface vessel shipbuilder, BVT Surface Fleet, was officially launched on 1 July. BVT is a joint venture between BAE Systems and the VT Group. It is responsible for most of the UK's naval shipbuilding capabilities with some 7,000 people employed at shipyards at Clyde, Govan, Portsmouth and Scotstoun.</description>

<description>The UK MoD has ordered further Jackal and Viking vehicles for operations in Afghanistan. An order for 72 Jackal MWMIK (Mobility Weapons Mounted Installation Kit) 4x4 light patrol vehicles has been placed with Babcock Marine Services at Plymouth, while a separate contract has been placed with BAE Systems Hagglunds for 14 BvS10 Viking
All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) that are thought to be replacements for Vikings that have been lost in Afghanistan. Deliveries of the new vehicles are expected to take place in 2009.</description>

<description>The UK MoD confirmed on 19 June that it will not proceed with an order for two extra Type 45 Daring Class Anti-Air Warfare (AAW) destroyers that would have brought the number to enter Royal Navy service from 2009 up to eight. Six Type 45s were ordered in 2000 to enter service in 2009-2013: HMS Daring (D32), Dauntless (D33), Diamond (D34), Dragon (D35), Defender (D36) and Duncan (D37). These will replace the Navy's eight Type 42 Sheffield Class destroyers, which have been in service since 1980s.</description>

<description>The Netherlands has ordered an extra 13 Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicles (IMV). The Netherlands ordered 35 vehicles in 2005, but six models were lost while deployed in Afghanistan. Three vehicles from the new order will be deployed to Afghanistan. Apart from the Dutch, the Bushmaster is operated by Australia while the UK recently placed an order for 24 models as an urgent operational requirement (UOR).</description>
