Use of PDF

All of european-defence.co.uk's publications have been printed in portable document format (PDF) providing a more dynamic form of delivering information than traditional print media. It also provides a more capable format to display data than HTML or XML, allowing better reproduction of text, graphics and photographs.

Quicker purchase

Using PDF allows the reader to purchase, download and display the publications on their desktop at a much quicker and cheaper rate than ordering and waiting for a hard copy version to be sent to their address.

Find information fast

Search and bookmark functions allow the user to find information contained within the document quickly, saving the time and hassle that can take place when having to leaf and read through sections of a hard copy, or having to laboriously move backwards and forwards through chapters and the index looking for relevant pages. All this can be done offline, reducing the time needed looking for the information in books or on the Internet.

Versatility

When reading the PDF documents on your desktop, the user can zoom in or out of the document. Text in PDF version can be zoomed into many times more than normal A4 size of the document, while the images can be displayed on your desktop at the same high quality double the normal size. For those that prefer traditional print media, PDF can be printed out -- exactly as it is displayed on the computer screen.

More up-to-date

Using PDF allows quicker and more accurate updates. Data is put into the publications right up to the minute that it goes on sale. Many comparable hard copy publications have gone to print with significant gaps between the author's delivery of the manuscript to the publisher before being sent out to the printer, making it dated long before it even hits the shelves. Purchase the book months after it has been published and information in the book is out-of-date and sometimes only useful for historical reference.

Environmentally friendly

With increasing awareness of environmental issues, using PDF eliminates the use of paper for publishing.

Size of files

PDF files sent to clients range from 3 to 4MB. You are advised to have access to broadband to download these files before placing an order.
